March 28, 1999                It's Mind over Matter                      Phil. 2

by Ronald E. George Jr.

Palm Sunday

Scripture Text:

Phil 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth; 11 And [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

If you don't mind it doesn't matter. Do you mind? Do you mind the things of God?

Do you have the mind of Christ?

This is the mind of Jesus Christ the Son of the only true living God.

  1. He was watching out for you. He was always putting others first in his life. Looking out for number one to him meant looking out for you. He is the eternal Son of God who was watching for you.
  2. He emptied himself for you. He took on himself no reputation so that we could have his reputation. He became a servant for us by washing our feet. He became a sacrifice for us by washing our sin with his blood. He didn't mind so then it didn't matter or cause him to say no. He said yes to the Father. He became as his own creation so that we could become as the creator.
  3. He humbled himself for you. When Jesus was in the Garden contemplating his death he prayed Father if there would be any other way to let this cup pass from him. He prayed not my will be done, but thine. To give us the opportunity to be lifted up with God he humbled himself down to suffer death in our place. He came down so we could go up.

Do You have this mind in you?

If this mind of Christ is in you then you won't mind to Praise his name, bend your knee, and confess that Jesus Christ if Lord. It's mind over matter. Do you mind to:

  1. Praise the name that is above every name. Acts 4:12 There is no other name given under heaven whereby men must be saved. Do you mind to open your mouth to publicly praise the name of the Lord as they people did the first Palm Sunday? Praise him with your singing, praise him with your testimony, and praise him with your prayer. Too often we sing " Take my wife and let me be." Instead of "take my life and let it be, consecrated Lord to thee." Do you mind to praise the Name?
  2. Bend our knees and bow before the King of Kings. Do you mind to bow your knees before the king? All those who love the king willingly give themselves to bow down before him. Every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God. Now we have the opportunity to willingly give ourselves to him. Now we have the opportunity to come publicly before him on bent knees.
  3. Confess that Jesus Christ is our Lord. Do you mind to let others know that you agree with the Heavenly Father? Publicly confess that he is your Lord. It's mind over matter. If you don’t mind it doesn't matter. Our goal is to glorify God. Would you make this the goal of your life? Do you mind? Our desire to lift him up.

Do you have the mind of the Lord?
