5/17/98 ......Yada, Yada, Yada!....... Eccl.1:1-11
by Ronald E. George Jr.
My life is hectic! I'm running all day, meetings, phone calls paperwork, appointments. I push myself to the limit, fall into bed exhausted, and get up early the next morning to do it all again. My output is tremendous; I'm getting a lot done. But I get this feeling inside sometimes, "So what? What are you doing that really counts?" I have to admit, I don't know.
Key Verses:
Eccl 12:13 (KJS) Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether [it be] good, or whether [it be] evil.
Scripture Text: Eccl: 1:1-11
Eccl 1:1 (KJS) The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. 2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all [is] vanity. 3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun? 4 [One] generation passeth away, and [another] generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever. 5 The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose. {hasteth: Heb. panteth} 6 The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits. 7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea [is] not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. {return...: Heb. return to go} 8 All things [are] full of labour; man cannot utter [it]: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. 9 The thing that hath been, it [is that] which shall be; and that which is done [is] that which shall be done: and [there is] no new [thing] under the sun. 10 Is there [any] thing whereof it may be said, See, this [is] new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. 11 [There is] no remembrance of former [things]; neither shall there be [any] remembrance of [things] that are to come with [those] that shall come after.
In a recent interview with Katie Kurig, Jerry Seinfeld discusses the absurdness of life. Jerry mentions the origins of Haircuts. Where do they come from? Katie responds that they come from magazines. Jerry: where do magazines come from? They come from trees. Where do trees come from? They come from God? End of the story. Everything isnt meaningless (Yada, Yada, Yada) if you go deep enough. But, we have to go to the root of things in our lives if we want to find the true meaning. The root of life is God. He is the source and He is the one who substance to an other wise meaningless existence.
We live in a meaningless society. Superficial living is the fad of the time. Jobs are temporary. Social Security is failing. There arent anymore good jobs. What do we have left to live for? Is there anything worth living for? Folks are not getting to live a full life before they are gone. Life is too short.
1. Solomons had a meaningless (yada, yada, yada) life.
Although he had everything he didnt have meaning in his life. What was missing?
2. Do you have a "Yada, Yada, Yada" Life? Life in the Veneer.
This was the life of Solomon. Tried it all and he found it all to be meaningless.
3. Can a Christian have a "Yada, Yada, Yada" Life?
Superficial Christianity never gets to the root of the matter. God is the source. Have you got together with him lately? Would you like to?
4. What is the cure for the Yada, Yadas?
Fear God and Keep His commandments! This is the whole duty of Humans.
YWH God is the cure for a meaningless life in the world and in the church. You can try it all but when we neglect the Lord then we have truly missed it all. God is God and he wants to be your God
Eccl 12:13 (KJS) Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether [it be] good, or whether [it be] evil.
