by Ronald E. George Jr. at the Sand Fork Baptist Church.

Number one of the series the Gifts of Christmas.

For the next four weeks we will consider the gifts that God has given us for Christmas. Are you ready for Christmas?

Scripture Text: Is. 9:6-7, John 1:1-4

Key Verse: John1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Life is a Gift from God.

How Precious is Life?

Maybe you heard about the man who went to his doctor for a checkup. He came back the next day to get the results from the tests. "Doc, how do I look?" The doctor said, "I have good news and bad news. Which do you want first?" The man said, "Let me hear the good news first." The doctor said, "Well the good news is, you have twenty-four hours to live." "Good grief! That's the good news?" the man gasped. "I've got twenty-four to live? Then, what's the bad news?" The doctor replied, "The bad news is I was supposed to tell you yesterday."

John 1:1 (KJS) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Isai 9:6 (KJS) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of [his] government and peace [there shall be] no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

I. We have been given the Gift of Physical Life. Have we Recognized His

Gift? We were created by Him and for Him.

  1. We live because he created us. Our own life is a gift from God to us. Without God we would not exist.
  2. We have been given children that we might continue to live in Christ.
  3. We have been given the Son of God that we might know life in Him. " in Him was life."
  1. We have been given Spiritual Life in Christ. Have you received it from Him as His gift to you?

John 3:3 (KJS) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

John 14:6 (KJS) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

  1. We can receive the gift of new life in Christ by being re-created in Him. Have you experienced the new birth we have in Christ. Allow God to push the reset button.
  2. We can receive the gift of spiritual life today in Christ . Without Him we are dead in trespasses and sins. By Christ who came into the world we can have new spiritual life.
  1. We have been given the gift of Eternal Life Now in Christ. We are living forever in Him.

1Joh 5:11 (KJS) And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; [and] he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

  1. Have you received His gift to you of eternal life now in Christ? Would you receive his gift to you today.
  2. How do you know that we have eternal life now in Jesus? Because He lives, we can face tomorrow. He is alive because he rose from the dead.
  1. We have been given an Abundant Life in Christ. Are you really enjoying the abundant life now in Jesus?

John 10:9 (KJS) I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. 10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly.

As Christians we have been given the best possible life anyone could have. It is called the abundant life now in Christ. Living with Christ and Living for Christ is the way to experiencing the best possible life we could have life. Have you unwrapped your gifts from God?
